THERE’S no breaking the tenacity of Crewe FC’s PJ Hudson.

The 21-year-old star played through the pain barrier to help his Sunday side win some silverware.

Scans have revealed that Hudson finished the campaign with a broken leg.

It didn’t stop him bagging a hat-trick in a final.

A la Victor Meldrew, boss Ian O’Reilly couldn’t believe it.

“You’ve got to hand it to him,” he said.

“He took a knock in Sunday football and missed a few weeks for us.

“He came back to score one and get a penalty against Warrington but then didn’t play for us again.

“Although he came back for a final, he still didn’t feel right and the scans said he’d broken his leg nine weeks ago.

“He said he’d never felt pain like it and luckily it’s healed right so he should be fit for pre-season.”

One of Crewe FC’s main threats, Hudson will be hoping to make a bigger impact next season.

“He’s a player that can turn a game for you,” added O’Reilly.

“We’ll be looking for more from him next season.

“I said to Steve (Harding) what a tough cookie he’d been.”

All the players are now back in training for Harding’s maiden pre-season as first-team coach.

O’Reilly says their schedule is almost sorted.

“We’ve got a few games lined up,” he added.

“But we’ll probably have to play all of our friendlies out of Crewe with work on the pitch.”
