CREWE look to have lost out on Gretna keeper Greg Fleming.
Oldham are reported to have signed the 21-year-old Scottish junior international.
Alex first-team coach Steve Holland is keen to move quickly to sign a new stopper as both Ben Williams and Owain fon Williams are on their way.
Despite Gretna's poundings on the way to relegation from the SPL, Fleming is highly-rated and one of their best performers of a tough season.
Crewe's backroom team travelled North to see him keep a clean sheet in Gretna's final top-flight match, a 1-0 win over Hearts.
Holland offered him the number one shirt in a bid to stave off other interest.
But Fleming appears to have chosen the Latics "We've tried to sign the lad from Gretna but he's indicated he's joining Oldham," said boss Steve Holland.
"So it's a case of moving on."
