MICHAEL O'Connor could develop into the Alex star we've been expecting after signing a contract extension.

At one stage this season it looked like the midfielder was struggling with injuries and off-the-pitch incidents hampering progress.

"But over the past couple of months he's started to look like the player we always thought he could become."

But he's recent performances firmed up those long-held believes of potential, earning a call up for the NI senior squad and this new deal.

"He's had a frustating year with injuries," explained Steve Holland.

"But over the past couple of months he's started to look like the player we always thought he could become.

"That's been supported by his call-up to the full International squad.

"It's good news that he's committed to us for another year."
