SCHOOLS from Crewe and Nantwich have been enjoying a flavour of Mardi Gras with samba drumming workshops.

The sessions have been led by professional artists Damien Harron and Simone Rebello in the run up to this year’s festival. Pupils have been learning samba routines as a taster of the parade workshops, which take place August 19 to 22, from 1-4pm at the Ludford Family Centre.

The workshops will include costumes and samba dancing and are open to all on a first come first served basis.

Jocelyn McMillan, the council’s cultural development manager, said: “This year we wanted to promote the parade and get as many people involved as possible to make it a real community event.

“We hope to encourage a really good turn out to the parade workshops in August. For details on the festival programme go to crewe-nantwich.gov.uk/festival.
