A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following a crash.

A vehicle flipped onto its side after hitting an electrical pole along Northwich Road near Dutton this morning (April 18).

The driver, a woman in her 60s, of the vehicle had to be cut free from her vehicle and has since been taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 9.24am on Thursday, police were called to reports of a collision on Northwich Road, Dutton, Northwich.

"The collision involved one vehicle which had flipped onto its side and hit an electrical pole.

"The female driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

"Officers left at 11.25am and the scene was passed to Highways."

Three Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service engines were also called to the scene - one each from the Widnes, Runcorn and Penketh stations.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off the vehicle in order to free the woman.

A spokesperson for the service said: "Fire crews attended the scene of a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving an electrical post.

"One casualty was trapped in the vehicle which had overturned on its side.

"Firefighters used cutting tools to remove the roof of the vehicle and safely remove the casualty, who is now in the care of paramedics.

"Police are in attendance and will keep the road closed while they clear the scene."

According to the AA website, as of 3pm Northwich Road remains closed
