LIBERAL Democrat candidate Elizabeth Shenton has hit out at parking charges at Leighton Hospital.

The by-election candidate has promised to raise the issue of hospital parking in Parliament if she is elected.

Changes in the parking charges leave some people paying £30 per week to visit sick relatives.

Elizabeth Shenton said: "Labour needs to be challenged and brought to account over hospital charges.

"I intend to challenge the Minister in Parliament myself after the by-election.

"Hospitals should not need to make up funding short falls from a stealth tax on patients.

"As the local MP for Crewe and Nantwich, I will fight for local residents against these hikes in parking charges."

An Early Day Motion against hospital parking charges has been tabled by John Pugh MP.

He said: "These parking charges are out of order.

"The Welsh Assembly has already cut all parking charges; the same should happen here.

"It is unfair for local people to be forced to pay hundreds of pounds just to visit sick friends and relatives."
